Top 10 Best Student Cities in the UK
UK claims 10 out of 100 entries included in the QS Best Student Cities 2018 ranking, the highest in any country except the US (with 13). As if that wasn’t enough, the capital London indexed for the first time in 2018 The top has moved up, and there are two new entries this year (Aberdeen and Brighton).
The best student cities rankings each entry on six indicators, including desirable, affordable, and student perspective, most recently based on responses collected in our student survey. All 10 UK listings are ranked among the top half of cities for student mixing, an indicator that assesses the size and diversity of each city’s student population, but its fare to be affordable Low.

10. Brighton

7. Birmingham
Ranked 51st in this year’s best student cities (up four places from last year), Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK and is one of the most exciting cities in the UK, with its finest restaurants, history, entertainment, shopping, and culture. Birmingham is one of its industries Famous for its heritage and has miles of canals than Venice. It hosts the largest Christmas market in the UK each year and over 50 festivals each year, including the Birmingham Comedy Festival.
The city ranks 50th in this year’s ranking of cities for ratings, with Birmingham University among the consecutive top 100 global rankings.
6. Nottingham
Nottingham ranks 47th in best student cities this year and is one of Britain’s most vibrant cities, affectionately called the ‘Queen of the Midlands and known for its proud association with the Robin Hood legend.
This city scores the third-highest score in the UK for student visibility (21st), students here rate it high for its nightlife, ease of getting around (an award-winning public transport system in Nottingham), friendship, diversity, and more. One student described the city as “a great student city with a better, sustainable, recreational city lifestyle,” in our survey.
5. Coventry
Ranked the fifth-highest among the UK’s 10 entrants in the best student cities rankings this year, Coventry ranks 44th overall, just one place behind Glasgow. 3. Manchester
Manchester is 24th in the ranking of best student cities in 2018, making the UK’s fourth-best score for student viewing, one student wrote: “It’s a great city with so much to see and do.” Yes, but so small and inclusive that still has a sense of community among all. It’s very multicultural and welcomes everyone.
Ranked 12th collectively for student engagement, Manchester has the largest student population in Europe, reaching around 100,000 as of September 2017, (of which 40,000 are studying at its top-ranked institution, Manchester University). 2. Edinburgh
Ranked 16th overall in this year’s best student cities rankings, the Scottish capital of Edinburgh is known for historical and cultural attractions and events like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which practically doubles the city’s population each August.

1. London
Along with being the top student city in the UK, London has ranked number one in the world for the first time by climbing two places in the best student cities of the year. With institutions ranked under 17 including two in the global top 10, London Is surprisingly ranked the best in the world in ratings, and also ranks second in terms of employer activity.
When asked in our student survey what the best thing about studying in London is, one respondent said: “Diversity and trying things – you can do something new every week, from all sorts of people.” Can be found, and although the cost of living is high, there are plenty of things to do for free/cheap.
